The roof for the ice arena with a footprint size of 60 x 50 m has a cylindrical surface design. Maximum height of the structure is 13.0 m. The transverse bonds of the structural system (at 5m spacing) are composed of arched timber trusses with inserted central hinge, which are supported by rocker studs (steel and wood columns). Sufficient rigidity of the transverse bond is achieved by proper arrangement of the hinged footings of the columns (outer ā€œVā€ frame). The structural stability in lengthwise direction is achieved by trussed bracing members made of timber braces and steel tension bars (wind bracing of the roof and long walls). The erection of the structure was assisted by 2 to 3 cranes, during which the columns were placed into pre-embedded in concrete gusset plates for tenon joints.
