Our work on this project included the manufacture and installation of an oval roof above the hippodrome. Six asymmetrical tapered frames on each end of the oval are combined with four straight beams, thus forming the primary load-bearing structure. The frames are connected by purlins at the top level as well as at each third of the frame length. The primary structure above the oval is supplemented by rafters that support the roof deck.
The structural members were pre-made in the workshop and the pre-assembly of the frames was done to the maximum possible extent compatible with the transport limitations on the site. The frame halves were raised using a temporary scaffold under the top-level joint.
