Congress Centre of the Eroplan Hotel
The project purpose was to build a new envelope of the existing structure that is atypically shaped as a “blob”. The structural system is a combination of RC elements and engineered wood elements. The existing building has a waterproofing membrane as the last assembly layer with mounting elements protruding out of it. They were intended to carry the original envelope and are used to carry the new one.
The aluminium structure of the envelope is divided into primary structure composed of tubes 40/4 and a secondary one composed of sheet metal lath mesh elements sized 7500x150mm, which were the main decorative element. The laminations are arranged at a spacing of 800 mm at an angle of around 60°. Besides their dominant function characterised by creating visual effects, the laminations are also used as auxiliary framing for the lights that illuminate the building at night.
